Person Centered Expressive Therapy Ideas

PCETI is about ideas in person-centered expressive arts therapy. Focussing on personal development and transformation through writing, art, movement and dance, drama, and sound. Person-centered expressive therapy aims to promote self-realisation by nurturing our creativity. This ultimately results in personal development by releasing our inner powers.

Person-centered therapy originated in the work of Carl Rogers in the 1940s and 1950s. It was further developed and extended to encompass expressive elements in therapy by Carl Rogers' daughter Natalie Rogers

Carl Rogers

The principles of Carl Rogers' work are founded on respect for others, demonstrated by treating everyone with empathy, honesty and giving them unconditional acceptance. He held that each person had a natural impulse of growth and development in the direction of self-fulfillment and being in harmony with others.

These principles were incorporated into his theories of client-centered therapy and counselling and person-centered relationships.

Carl Rogers received many prestigious awards for his work. He was Past President of the American Psychological Association. In 1956 he received their Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award and their Professional Achievement Award followed in 1972.

In 1987 he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, sadly news of this was not received until shortly after his death.

Self Help Books

If you are having problems in your personal life, and beginning to doubt your ability to cope with your issues on your own, you probably are thinking about getting advice from someone else. Sometimes, it’s hard to see our way through our problems because we are so closely involved. Sometimes it takes a set of eyes and ears from someone who is not actively involved to get a clear answer. Some people turn to counselors to help them work through their problems, while others turn to self help books.

Self help books have been popular for the last two decades, and continue to be popular today. You can find self help books to help you with almost any condition or problem you can think of, and you may have a hard time choosing the book that is right for you.  There are so many books that become immensely popular, and they become a must have on everyone’s shopping list. The trouble with this is that self help books that work for one person may not work as well for someone else.

You can buy self help books for specific problems, or you can buy ones that are more general. If you simple feel bored with life, or wish to give yourself an overall boost, you can buy a book that is more general in nature. On the other hand, if you have social phobia, you want to buy self help books that are specifically written on that subject. There are also self help books that can help you when you are in a career rut, about to divorce, or can’t seem to get your love life off the ground.

Take some time and read reviews of self help books before you buy. Reviews will help you understand exactly what the book has to say, and you can then decide if it is something that will help you, or if you need to keep looking. Self help books for men looking to move ahead in their careers may not be good for women. This is because men and women tend to face different challenges in their careers. Little things like this can make the difference in how a book helps you.

If you don’t want to buy, go ahead and check a few out of your local library. This won’t help you if you have social anxiety however, because you probably don’t want to leave the house to buy or check out the book. This is where the Internet comes in. Go ahead and buy something off of Amazon or eBay, or see if you can find self help books you are interested in that are available as e-books. You can simply download these and read them from the privacy of your own home.
